Jewish Stories
Jewish Stories is an animated anthology that digs up the strangest, most overlooked corners of Jewish history — pirate rabbis, false messiahs, unlikely impostors — and turns them into short bite sized comedies built to make you laugh first and think second. Each episode travels to a different century and corner of the world, animated to evoke the artistic tradition of its own time and place — Flemish painting, Chinese ink-wash, Mexican muralism. Beneath the comedy, it’s a portrait of a unique people that has lived inside dozens of cultures at once and somehow held itself together, largely through humor.
Deborah Medrez Pier is a Mexican creative director, multimedia artist, musician, and writer whose work moves across visual storytelling, music, animation, and cultural research. With a background in creative direction and a lifelong engagement with Jewish culture and history, she explores the intersection of identity, memory, mythology, and contemporary storytelling. Her practice spans music composition and performance, visual development, writing, and creative strategy. Based in Mexico City, Deborah brings a distinctly multidisciplinary perspective to Jewish Stories, combining her artistic sensibility with a deep curiosity about the unexpected histories and cultural worlds of the Jewish diaspora. She co-created Jewish Stories with longtime friend Avigayil Kelman.
