Jewish Writers Institute

The Jewish Writers Institute empowers creators to tell compelling and authentic Jewish stories with support from industry professionals, Jewish educators and subject matter experts, and a community of peers. Writers selected for our fellowships attend immersive seminars and receive financial support for work on their projects during the program.

A year-long fellowship that supports emerging and mid-career screenwriters developing scripts that explore Jewish themes, culture, and identity in fresh, compelling ways.

A year-long fellowship for visionary creators developing original, Jewish-themed projects for digital platforms, such as video shorts, podcasts, webtoons, games and emerging formats.

“This program was invaluable in affording me the opportunity to further develop my project in a supportive and nurturing environment–one where I felt completely accepted both as an artist and as a Jewish person. I’m endlessly grateful to this program for providing me with what has been one of the greatest artistic experiences I’ve had in my professional career to date.”

“I was blown away by the collective of minds in the cohort: their creativity and depth of thinking, the diversity in their experiences, the variety of projects. The conversations we had together, buoyed by the lab and the speakers that were brought in, will stay with me forever. I am truly grateful for getting to participate in the lab and their generosity in helping me grow the seed of an idea into an actual work.”

“On a creative and spiritual level, what makes the Jewish Writers Institute so special is really that Jewish element. Through our sessions and our meetings and lectures, we were able to connect to the Jewish past in order to really dig from that well and get inspired, and get those creative juices flowing, so that we could take that into our projects and determine what is going to be the creative Jewish future.”
