Around the Table

Around the Table is a multi-part web series that joins Jewish families in their kitchens as they cook a meal that holds their family’s history. Through food, memory, and conversation, each episode explores what it means to be Jewish today — across Persian, North African, Eastern European, and intermarried families — and celebrates the full diversity of modern Jewish life, one shared table at a time.

For more than two decades, Jon Lowenstein has made long-term, in-depth documentary work exploring power, history, identity, and change. Working in photography and film, he turns his attention to communities and individuals often overlooked or left on the margins. As the son of a Holocaust survivor, he is drawn to diaspora communities: the struggle for autonomy and security, and the resilience and hope that so often run through stories of migration. A Guggenheim Fellow, National Geographic Explorer, and TED Senior Fellow, he is a founding member of NOOR Images and The Artefakt, and lives in Calgary.
