#FOODFRIDAYS AND OTHER SHORTS

What is a shtreimel? Why do Hasidim have sidecurls? What does a Hasidic bride wear on her wedding day? In these intimate vertical shorts—tender, curious, and sometimes a little funny—I translate the rich world of Hasidic life for the scroll-happy viewer. From #FoodFriday glimpses into cultural foods to poetic moments of daily ritual, these short videos are an experiment in making my long-form YouTube interviews and deep-dive essays accessible in a new language: the language of the digital age, vertical and fast, but still human and full of soul.

Frieda Vizel grew up in the Satmar Hasidic community of Kiryas Joel. Although she left the fold in her twenties, she continues to connect with the Orthodox Jewish community through her work as a Brooklyn tour guide and Youtuber. Her lively Youtube channel explores Hasidic life through interviews, street visits, analysis, food, holidays, and more.
