We Canceled Mitzvah Night
The women in Borough Park are fed up; too many of them have been held captive by husbands who refuse to grant gets — religious divorces — keeping them chained to dead and abusive marriages. We Cancelled Mitzvah Night is an eight episode mini series that follows journalist Shifra Pailet as she embeds herself with the Hasidic community. There, she meets Lyat Rosen, the teenager leading the women in a shocking and rebellious act of resistance against their husbands — a sex strike. As the struggle becomes more personal and ulterior motives are revealed, the two women find themselves on a collision course to an act of violence that will change their lives forever. We Cancelled Mitzvah Night is a dark comedy about sisterhood, faith, and dismantling misogynistic practices through any means necessary. A marriage of Bad Sisters, Lysistrata, and Orthodox Judaism, Mitzvah Night centers an incredible community of underestimated women who won’t lie down without a fight.
